At Latch Build, we build new homes, renovations and commercial projects across Wanaka, Luggate, Albert Town, Lake Hawea, Cardrona and the wider Central Otago region.

It's a family business, run by Cam and Tara. Cam is a highly experienced Licensed Building Practitioner who's been on the tools for over eighteen years and still gets a kick out of a good architectural build. He's the one actually on site running your job, start to finish. Tara keeps you in the loop the whole way. Small team, big experience, and we treat every build like it's our own.

Meet Cam + Tara,

The Heart Behind Latch Build.

Cam grew up on a lifestyle block in Drury, spending hours in the shed with his dad, an engineer, which is where the love of building started. After moving to Wanaka for high school, he did his carpentry apprenticeship under respected local builder Tony Quirk, working on high-end architectural homes around the region. From there he headed to London, leading teams and managing budgets on complex builds including basement constructions in tightly packed neighbourhoods, experience that shaped how he runs a site today.

Tara grew up on a deer farm in Whanganui and studied costume construction in Wellington. Flatting after leaving home is where her love of interiors took hold, constantly rearranging and styling spaces, an interest that deepened when she and Cam built their first home together in 2019.

Cam and Tara met in Wanaka and started Latch Build together in 2020, pairing his construction and project management experience with her eye for design and client communication. Today that combination is still the point: organisation and clear communication, the two things a lot of building projects lack.

They're raising two boys, Angus and Hamish, and when they're off the clock you'll usually find them mountain biking, walking the trails, or camping around Central Otago in the caravan

Our Team

Cam is our director and a highly skilled builder, bringing 18 years of invaluable experience in the building industry. His expertise ensures that there’s no problem he can't solve. With a deep passion for architecturally designed homes, Cam enjoys the finer details of every project.
Outside of work, Cam cherishes spending time with his family and enjoys mountain biking adventures with friends. He also loves to gather around the outdoor fire, where he showcases his culinary skills by whipping up delicious pizzas.

Tara leads client communications at Latch Build, providing clear, consistent weekly updates and ensuring clients feel informed and supported throughout their build journey.
With a keen eye for detail, Tara also oversees marketing and social media, showcasing the quality work delivered on site. Her passion for the building industry, combined with a strong interest in interior design, drives her to present our projects in their best light.
Outside of work, Tara enjoys making the most of the outdoors around Wānaka with their dog Max, spending time with family and friends, and indulging her creative side through painting.

Colin is a trade-qualified carpenter and Licensed Building Practitioner with over 19 years’ experience in residential construction. He brings a wealth of hands-on knowledge across renovations, new builds, structural framing and finishing work, along with experience leading small teams and coordinating trades.

Daniel began his apprenticeship in January 2024 and has been working in the building trade for over two years. Building has always been part of his life, having grown up around roofing and renovation projects through family involvement in the industry.
He particularly enjoys roof framing and being up high on site, along with the opportunity to think on his feet and problem-solve throughout the build. Daniel is drawn to intricate projects with lots of moving parts, which naturally fuels his interest in renovations and architectural new homes.
Outside of work, Daniel is a keen speedway fan, following stockcars over summer and skiing through winter. He also enjoys woodturning and furniture making, getting into the hills hunting, and spending time on the boat chasing big fish.

Cam did his carpentry apprenticeship on high-end architectural homes in Wanaka, then led complex builds in London before coming home. Eighteen-plus years on, as a Licensed Building Practitioner and NZCB member, he brings that same level of craft to every job.
